Alan Leo, the father of modern astrology, opened up the secrets of divination by the stars to the general public in the early 20th century with a popular line of astrology manuals that set off a craze for horoscopes that continues to this day. In this compact 1909 volume, he demonstrates how anyone can "obtain an answer to any question of which the mind is earnestly desirous of a true solution." Discover how to find the answers to conundrums involving... . monetary affairs . children and friendships . marriage, partnerships, and lawsuits . long journeys . honor and employment . hopes and wishes . and more. British astrologer WILLIAM FREDERICK ALLAN (1860-1917), a.k.a. J. Ligteneigen: A nice start for beginners in Horary Astrology
Beginners in horary astrology will like this 138 page booklet. It starts with the calculation of a horoscope for the exact time any specific question was asked at a certain place. Then follows a short description of the meanings of the houses with respect to the topics of the question involved such as finance, mariage, job, etc.
Since the Ascendant of the horary horoscope and its ruling planet tell something about the person enquiring, descriptions are given for every planet in the signs. These should not be take too literally since they are changed by the position in house and by the aspects by the other planets. Also William Lilly in his Christian Astrology gives these kinds of descriptions so they are worth while studying them.

Chapter 5 gives several of the topics which are associated with the twelve houses and how to analyse the problem and how to come to conclusions regarding the question.

The really interesting part is chapter 6 where the author gives a detailed example about a financial question, followed by 13 cases of questions. They are not the author's but comer from respected horary astrologers, but Alan Leo places comments or notes on each case.

What follows then are excerpts from Raphael's "Manual of Astrology", a very scarse and valuable work from 1828 dealing with the 12 houses in detail,, followed by Bethem's Centiloquy or the 100 aphorisms dealing with a variety of astrological situations.
Then follows the Centiloquy by Ptolemy and a small collection of several astrological items.

Lastly you will see a detailed Gloassary of horary items really worth while studying. The last page contains a table of the Egyptian Terms (or bonds) which are very important in horary astrology.

My conclusion: Alan Leo is not really a horary astrologer. This will be clear by only one case which he works out in chapter six. All the rest is quoted or borrowed from other authors.
What you will miss is how things are going to perfection or will not come to perfection. So the question "will I get that job?" can only be answered when all aspects of the matter are considered and that is what is not explained very well in this book. The field of horary astrology is very wide and this book is a nice stepping stone for first readers on the subject.
